The ceremony was attended by the head of the Paju City Personal Taxi Association, executives from the association, and others, who awarded licenses to five new license holders.

In September, the city announced applications for new personal taxi licenses for a total of five vehicles, including two additional vehicles and three licenses reduced from the existing pool. Fourteen applicants responded to the announcement, and after a strict screening process that included verification of driving qualifications, accident-free periods, and on-site checks of driving experience, five final candidates were selected for the new licenses.

Paju City has continuously sought ways to increase the number of taxis to address the shortage of available taxis. With the implementation of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '5th Taxi Quota Guidelines (2025-2029),' there were concerns about a reduction in licenses. However, through the Autonomous Adjustment Council, the city secured the maximum allowable increase rate of 10 percent, and with the Gyeonggi-do Taxi Reduction Committee's review and approval of the increase, Paju was reclassified from a reduction area to an increase area, successfully adding two more taxis. As a result, the total number of taxis in Paju City has increased from 826 to 828, and these taxis will now operate throughout the city.

Kim Kyoungil, Mayor of Paju, stated, "Personal taxis are an important means of transportation responsible for citizens' daily mobility. Through the issuance of these new licenses, we expect to alleviate inconveniences in taxi use and provide safer and more courteous transportation services to citizens."

Meanwhile, Paju City plans to continue striving to create a citizen-focused transportation environment by meeting the requirements for recalculation through improved taxi operation rates, which serve as a key indicator for determining the taxi quota, and by promoting further increases in the number of taxis.
