The proactive establishment of a local joint venture, combined with the Korean government's active 'sales diplomacy,' is being credited for creating significant synergy.

On December 29 (local time), Hanwha Aerospace signed the third implementation contract with the Polish Armament Agency to supply the Cheonmu guided missile (CGR-080) with a range of 80 kilometers, valued at 5.6 trillion won.

This contract will be executed through a consortium with Hanwha-WB Advanced System (HWB), a joint venture established in October with the Polish defense company WB Electronics. The CGR-080 missiles, which will be produced at HWB's dedicated manufacturing facility to be built in Poland, are slated for delivery to the Polish military.

At the signing ceremony held at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw, Artur Kuptel, Head of the Armament Agency; Piotr Wojciech, Chairman of WB Group; and Sohn Jaeil, CEO of Hanwha Aerospace, signed the contract. Key figures from both countries were present, including Kang Hoonshik, Chief Presidential Secretary; Kim Hyunjong, First Deputy Director of the National Security Office; Lee Yongcheol, Administrator of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration; Won Jongdae, Director General for Resource Management at the Ministry of National Defense; Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Kosiniak-Kamysz; and Deputy Minister of Defense Paweł Bejda.

Previously, in 2022, Hanwha Aerospace signed a framework contract with the Polish government for the export of Cheonmu launchers and guided missiles. In November of the same year, the company signed the first implementation contract worth approximately 5 trillion won, followed by a second implementation contract worth about 2 trillion won last year, continuing to supply Cheonmu launchers and guided missiles to Poland.

Notably, this third implementation contract comes at a time when the 'European defense bloc' is intensifying, with the European Union's Secure Action for Europe (SAFE) fund encouraging the preferential purchase of European-made weapons. In October, President Lee Jaemyung sent Chief Secretary Kang Hoonshik to Poland as a special envoy for strategic economic cooperation, reaffirming both countries' commitment to defense industry collaboration. During this visit, Kang met with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Kosiniak-Kamysz and requested that the local production contract be concluded within the year, which led to the successful signing of this agreement. Additionally, in November, ahead of the Korea-UAE summit, President Lee dispatched Kang to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia as a special envoy for defense, laying the foundation for more than 15 billion dollars in defense exports.

CEO Sohn Jaeil stated, "I express my deep gratitude for the unwavering national-level support and efforts," adding, "We will continue striving so that K-defense can contribute to strengthening Korea's security."
