6.87 km Connection from Dongcheon to Jukjeon, Mabuk, and Eonnam
"Economic Feasibility Increases with Link to Dongbaek-Sinbong Line"
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is pushing to establish a new urban railway line connecting Dongcheon-dong in Suji-gu and Eonnam-dong in Giheung-gu.

On December 29, Yongin City announced this plan for a new urban railway line during a resident briefing session on the "Yongin City New Railway Network Concept and Feasibility Study," which was held at the Mabuk-dong Administrative Welfare Center.
At the briefing, the city unveiled a new urban railway line that will connect with the newly planned Dongbaek-Sinbong Line, recently included in the "2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Railway Network Construction Plan," and allow transfers to existing lines such as the Shinbundang Line and Bundang Line.
In the initial study conducted in July 2023, the city had reviewed routes connecting Dongcheon, Jukjeon, Mabuk, and Dongbaek via branch lines of either the Shinbundang Line or Bundang Line, as well as alternative railway (urban railway) routes.
The city explained that, based on the study results, it was determined that directly extending metropolitan railways from the Shinbundang Line or Bundang Line would be difficult due to technical issues arising from route branching and insufficient business feasibility. As an alternative, a new urban railway line connecting with the Dongbaek-Sinbong Line was proposed.
The urban railway line that the city has decided to pursue will branch off from Dongcheon Station on the Shinbundang Line, connect with the Dongbaek-Sinbong Line, and pass through Jukjeon and Mabuk before linking up with the Dongbaek-Sinbong Line at Eonnam.
The planned route will be 6.87 kilometers long, with estimated daily ridership of 31,461 people. Construction costs are expected to reach 797 billion won.
The city further added that, based on a feasibility review that assumes connection with the Dongbaek-Sinbong Line, the benefit-cost (B/C) ratio for this route was calculated at 1.23.
The Dongbaek-Sinbong Line is an urban railway route included in the "2nd Gyeonggi Province Urban Railway Network Construction Plan," which was finalized and announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on December 12. The line will run 14.7 kilometers, connecting Dongbaek Station, GTX Guseong Station, Seongbok Station, and Sinbong-dong.
The city plans to conduct an economic feasibility analysis of new railway lines, including the Dongbaek-Sinbong Line, as the current results reflect shared benefits based on the premise of establishing the Dongbaek-Sinbong Line.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "If the business feasibility of the Dongbaek-Sinbong Line and the Dongcheon-Eonnam urban railway increases, it will have a positive impact on the long-awaited project for a southern Gyeonggi metropolitan railway in Suji-gu. We will continue our efforts to ensure that the new southern Gyeonggi metropolitan railway project is included in the 5th National Railway Network Plan and connected to the Dongbaek-Sinbong Line."
