The Mokpo Coast Guard announced on the 29th that it will significantly strengthen proactive on-site inspections and maritime security posture in the southwestern coastal area, as numerous sunset and sunrise events are scheduled for the year-end and New Year period.
This year-end and New Year’s sunset and sunrise events are set to take place across the southwestern region, including various festivities at Haenam Oceano Beach, Muan Doripo, and Jindo Tower.
In particular, the Mokpo city bell-ringing ceremony and sunrise event will feature a fireworks display at sea, which requires special attention to maritime safety management.
Accordingly, the Mokpo Coast Guard plans to deploy patrol vessels, coastal rescue boats, and West Sea Special Rescue Unit boats to key event waters for close-range safety management. Police officers will also be assigned to passenger vessels carrying spectators to strengthen onboard safety management and emergency response capabilities.
In addition, the Coast Guard will establish tailored safety measures based on the characteristics of each event and local maritime conditions. On December 29 and 30, Mokpo Coast Guard Chief Chae Sujun and other command staff will conduct on-site inspections at event venues and maritime event areas, including Doripo Port, Gagye Beach, Dongwon passenger boats, and the area from Peace Plaza to Mokpo New Port, to eliminate potential hazards in advance.
The Mokpo Coast Guard also stated that it will establish a close cooperation system with local governments and related agencies, and will request the advance deployment of the Maritime Disaster Rescue Unit to the sites, making every effort to minimize any safety blind spots.
Chief Chae Sujun of the Mokpo Coast Guard stated, "Since sunset and sunrise events during the year-end and New Year period attract large crowds in a short time, advance inspections and on-site response are more important than ever. We will implement thorough maritime and coastal safety management throughout the entire event process to ensure that the public can safely welcome the New Year 2026."
