Cheorwon County to Provide 50,000 Won Monthly “Child Rearing Allowance” from Next Year to Ensure Seamless Childcare

Cheorwon County in Gangwon Province will officially launch the “Child Rearing Allowance Support Program” starting January 1, 2026, in order to establish a comprehensive, life-cycle-based support system for child and adolescent care that addresses every stage of growth.

Eligible recipients are households where, as of the application date, both the guardian (parent or actual caregiver) and children aged 9 to 18 are registered residents of Cheorwon County and actually reside there. Guardians can apply at their local town or township office based on their registered address.

The support consists of 50,000 won per eligible child each month, disbursed on the 25th of every month in the form of Cheorwon Love Gift Certificates (policy allowance). These certificates can be used at affiliated local merchants within Cheorwon County, which is expected to help reduce household financial burdens and stimulate the local economy.

Guardians need to apply for the Child Rearing Allowance only once by visiting their local town or township office, after which the allowance will be provided monthly without the need for reapplication. Applications can be submitted from the month preceding the child’s 9th birthday until they turn 18.

Lee Hyunjong, Mayor of Cheorwon County, stated, “Even after the termination of the child allowance, the need for care and nurturing continues. Through the Child Rearing Allowance, we will ensure seamless support for child care,” adding, “We will continue to develop and promote family-friendly policies that households can truly feel.”
