Director Im was chosen as the next president with a two-year term at the recent regular general meeting of the Korean University Museum Association. Starting January 1, 2026, he will represent the association and lead the cooperation and development of university museums nationwide.
Director Im Sangtaek stated, "University museums serve as hubs for academic research and as cultural platforms that engage with local communities. I will work to strengthen the association's role so that the expertise and achievements accumulated by each university museum can be organically connected, and to ensure that the value of university museums becomes even clearer amid a changing environment."
The Korean University Museum Association is a representative consultative body with participation from university museums across the country. It carries out a variety of research, educational, and exchange activities with the aim of strengthening the academic role of university museums and expanding their cultural public value. In particular, it has played an important role in connecting the cultural heritage held by universities to research, education, and exhibitions, thereby sharing it with society.
The association plans to further solidify the cooperation system among university museums, expand academic exchanges, strengthen the capabilities of professional personnel, and pursue joint tasks for the sustainable operation of university museums. In addition, based on government-funded projects such as the University Museum Promotion Support Project by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Support Project for the Preservation and Utilization of Unorganized Heritage Artifacts by the National Heritage Administration, the association will support the stable operation of university museums and work to further enhance inter-museum cooperation and academic exchange.
