The 'AI Champion' program is a core initiative of the public artificial intelligence (AI) competency enhancement policy, which is being promoted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) with the goal of training 20,000 public sector AI experts. The government is operating practical training and qualification certification programs within the public sector to foster AI professionals, aiming to have them make up about 2% of the total workforce in administrative and public institutions by 2030.

The employees who obtained certification this time are three administrative officers from the 4th Industrial Revolution Bureau. Park Sungjae from the AI Semiconductor Division and Yoon Kanghyuk from the Corporate Innovation Division participated in the September and October programs, respectively, and earned the 'Green' certification, which assesses capabilities in administrative work efficiency and service planning and improvement.

In particular, Photo Woo from the AI Semiconductor Division not only obtained the 'Green' certification in the September program, but also went on to earn the more advanced 'Blue' certification in the November program, which is a high-level track based on Python and Machine Learning, thereby demonstrating enhanced capabilities in implementing artificial intelligence services.

A representative from Seongnam City stated, "We expect that the efforts of these employees, who diligently participated in the training and certification process despite their busy work schedules, will serve as a foundation for the broader adoption of artificial intelligence and administrative innovation throughout city governance," adding, "We plan to continue expanding education and support to further strengthen our employees' AI utilization capabilities going forward."
