Trump on Thailand-Cambodia Ceasefire: "The U.S. Helped... We Are the Real United Nations"

Highlights Mediation Success on Social Media
Criticizes Absence of UN Leadership

Donald Trump, President of the United States, emphasized America's significant role in brokering the ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia, who had been engaged in armed clashes along their border since earlier this month, while criticizing the absence of the United Nations' involvement.

On the 28th (local time), President Trump stated on his self-created social networking service, Truth Social, "The sporadic armed clashes between Thailand and Cambodia have been temporarily halted, and both countries will return to peaceful coexistence in accordance with the previously agreed treaty."

He described the agreement as a "swift and very fair conclusion," and highly praised the prompt decision-making of the leaders of both countries. He further stated, "All international disputes should be resolved in this manner," and added, "As always, the United States is proud to have been able to assist in this process."

Previously, Thailand and Cambodia engaged in skirmishes along their border in July, and in October, a ceasefire agreement was reached through President Trump's mediation. The two countries, which have been embroiled in a territorial dispute for over 100 years, resumed fighting on the 7th of this month. After more than 100 deaths and over 500,000 people displaced, they agreed to another ceasefire after 20 days of renewed conflict. In relation to this, President Trump spoke directly with the leaders of both countries on the 12th of this month and personally mediated the ceasefire.

President Trump reiterated that since his inauguration in January of this year, he has brought an end to a total of eight conflicts.

He said, "In the past 11 months, the number of wars and disputes I have resolved and ended has reached eight," and added, "The United States may have become the 'REAL United Nations,' replacing the United Nations, which has provided almost no help or played any role, including in the ongoing disaster between Russia and Ukraine." He went on to say, "The United Nations must begin to act and engage more actively for world peace."

President Trump has consistently criticized the absence and inefficiency of the United Nations' role. In his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in September, he referred to the UN as an "incompetent and merely rhetorical organization," pointing out, "Ending wars is not just about words, but about action."

Meanwhile, President Trump is scheduled to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, later today in Florida, United States, to discuss Ukraine's revised proposal based on the US-drafted ceasefire plan between Russia and Ukraine.
