Union's Claims Are Not True
Gwangju Global Motors (GGM) has refuted the union's claim that the new job-based pay system, which will be introduced next year, discriminates between office and technical staff, stating that this is not true.
On the 28th, GGM released a statement saying, "The revised personnel management plan introduces a job-based allowance of 50,000 to 100,000 won per month for all employees based on job difficulty and work performance. The union's claim that office staff will receive a 400,000 won increase and technical staff an 180,000 won increase is a distortion of the facts."
GGM further explained, "The claim that technical staff will only see their pay increase to 180,000 won even after 23 years of service refers to a skill-based allowance that applies only to technical staff, not to office staff. For example, a technical employee with four years of service receives about 900,000 won more per year than office staff because of this skill-based allowance."
Regarding the claim of discriminatory payment of the mutual cooperation contribution, GGM stated, "This is not discrimination but compensation for participation in production. For technical staff, it is paid to those who actively participate in overtime and special shifts beyond the standard 40-hour workweek, while for office staff, it is paid based on performance evaluations."
Meanwhile, the union staged a full eight-hour strike on the 26th, protesting that the company's proposed incentive payment and personnel management regulation revisions create a structure that discriminates between office and technical workers.
GGM stated, "During the strike on the 26th, we deployed our executives and employees and there was not a single disruption in production. We earnestly ask the union to stop fueling conflict and division, to accept the mediation plan proposed by the Gwangju Labor-Management-Civic-Government Council, and to uphold the promise of a grand compromise among labor, management, government, and the community."
