The pedestrian walkway next to Gwangsin Bridge in Seo-gu, Gwangju collapsed after the connecting ramp was damaged.
At around 11:48 AM on the 28th, a report was received that the pedestrian walkway next to Gwangsin Bridge in Deokheung-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju had collapsed. There were no casualties, as no citizens were crossing the walkway at the time of the accident.
It is presumed that the collapsed section resulted from damage to the connecting ramp that links the walkway.
This pedestrian walkway was constructed in 2012 as part of the Four Major Rivers Project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and is connected to Gwangsin Bridge.
Seo-gu and other local governments have restricted access to the affected section to prevent safety accidents and have temporarily closed the nearby Deokheung Park Golf Course.
The city of Gwangju plans to investigate the cause of the collapse.
