Complaint Filed Over Alleged Misuse of Business Expense Card by Kim Byung-ki's Spouse

Complainant Claims "Reinvestigation Needed in Light of Newly Released Materials"

A complaint was filed with the police on December 28, requesting an investigation into allegations that the spouse of Kim Byung-ki, Floor Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, had misused a corporate card for business expenses belonging to a former deputy chair of the local district council for personal purposes in the past.

The Dongjak Police Station in Seoul received the complaint on the same day, which targets Kim's spouse, the deputy chair of the Dongjak District Council, and those involved with business expense management, on charges including occupational embezzlement and falsification of official documents. The complainant reportedly cited media reports about the alleged personal misuse of the corporate card for business expenses by Kim's spouse and submitted the complaint online, requesting an investigation into the matter.

Kim Byung-ki previously explained that this allegation had already been closed by investigative authorities as "no charges." However, the complainant argued, "Given the rebuttal from former aides and the newly released materials, there is a need to reopen the investigation."

On December 26, a separate complaint was filed regarding allegations that Kim Byung-ki used a hotel accommodation voucher received from Korean Air and received special airport assistance. This case has been assigned to the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul. Kim Byung-ki was also reported to the police for alleged violations of the Protection of Communications Secrets Act and the Information and Communications Network Act after disclosing former aides' Telegram chat records on Facebook.
