On December 28, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province announced the appointment of Sungsoo Park as the new President of the Gyeongbuk Economic Promotion Agency, a specialized economic policy institution dedicated to fostering small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners.
The newly appointed President, Sungsoo Park, began his public service career in 1998 after passing the 3rd Local Higher Civil Service Examination. Over 27 years, he has served in various key positions within Gyeongsangbuk-do, including Director of the Creative Economy and Industry Office, Director of Welfare and Health, Director of Regional Era Policy, and Deputy Mayor of Andong City, making significant efforts to revitalize the local economy and build an industrial foundation.

In particular, through the K-U City (one city/county, one industry, one university) model, which has been implemented throughout Gyeongsangbuk-do, he institutionalized job creation structures for youth, women, and the middle-aged. He also addressed local issues by advancing policies in multiple fields such as welfare, safety, and industry.
Gyeongsangbuk-do Province assessed Sungsoo Park as an economic policy expert and a field-oriented, communication-focused leader who will respond to the crises facing small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners, and drive innovation and growth in line with Governor Lee Cheolwoo’s vision that “the survival of enterprises ensures the survival of Korea.”
Sungsoo Park stated, “To respond to the rapidly changing economic environment, we will break down barriers between related organizations to improve the efficiency of business support and enhance the competitiveness of local industries through AI-driven industrial transformation, such as innovation in regional manufacturing processes.”
Governor Lee Cheolwoo remarked, “The local economy is facing difficulties due to regional imbalances such as depopulation, youth unemployment, low birth rates, and unfairness,” and urged, “As you have been appointed as the most suitable person to lead this economic institution, I ask you to do your utmost on the front lines to create a driving force for Gyeongbuk’s economic growth through innovative policies for local small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners.”
