Sokcho City to Revise Public Parking Fees from 2026... Daily Cap Raised to 10,000 Won

City to Adjust Public Parking Lot Fees, Effective January 19 Next Year
Monthly Pass Fees for Residents Reduced, Daily Passes for Tourists Adjusted to Reflect Actual Costs

Sokcho City in Gangwon Province has partially amended the "Sokcho City Parking Lot Installation and Management Ordinance" to enhance the efficient operation of public parking lots and improve convenience for citizens. The city will adjust and apply new parking fees starting January 19, 2026.

Under the revised ordinance, the hourly parking fee will remain unchanged. However, reflecting increases in the cost of living and labor costs, the daily parking fee cap will be raised from the current 6,000 won to 10,000 won.

The discount rate for compact cars, low-emission vehicles, and eco-friendly vehicles will be reduced from 60% to 50%. The discount rate for the Sokcho Tourist and Fishery Market parking lot and Rodeo Parking Lots 1 and 2, which had previously been set at 50% under the Special Act on the Promotion of Traditional Markets and Shopping Districts, will be adjusted to 30%.

The city plans to reinvest the additional funds secured through the increase in the fee cap and the adjustment of discount rates into improving outdated facilities and establishing new public and shared parking lots, thereby creating a more pleasant parking environment.

On the other hand, to ease the burden on local residents who regularly use public parking lots, the city will lower the parking fees for residents who use monthly passes. The existing daytime fee of 75,000 won will be reduced to 70,000 won, and the nighttime fee will be reduced from 56,000 won to 50,000 won. The monthly pass allowing integrated day and night use will remain at 120,000 won.

Additionally, for monthly passes, the 50% discount rate for public parking lots at traditional markets and shopping districts, and the 60% discount rate for compact, low-emission, and eco-friendly vehicles will remain unchanged. As a result, the economic burden for those commuting or using parking on a regular basis is expected to be alleviated.

To minimize public confusion resulting from the ordinance revision, the city will conduct sufficient public outreach and simultaneously upgrade the IT system of the Sokcho City Facilities Management Corporation, which is responsible for parking lot operations, to ensure the smooth implementation of the new fee structure.

A Sokcho City official stated, "This parking fee adjustment is not simply a fee increase, but a measure to enhance the efficiency and fairness of parking lot usage," adding, "We will minimize inconvenience to citizens through continuous monitoring and improvements to the system."
