The Seongsan Neighborhood Park development project, a long-cherished wish of Yeonggwang residents, has finally entered the full-scale construction phase. With the creation of a major urban park that integrates culture, relaxation, and sports in the historic Seongsan area, where a fortress once stood, the living environment of Yeonggwang-eup is expected to take a significant step forward.

According to Yeonggwang County on December 27, residents of Yeonggwang-eup, who make up 43% of the county's total population of about 53,000, have long demanded the creation of a park where they could enjoy both rest and leisure close to their daily lives. This was because, despite excellent accessibility, facilities tailored to residents' convenience were lacking. That is why there was a strong call for a major transformation of Seongsan Neighborhood Park, located in the heart of Yeonggwang-eup.

The current Seongsan Neighborhood Park development project is being regarded as a practical answer to these demands. The process of moving the project forward was by no means short.

The Seongsan area is a historically significant location where many remains from the late Unified Silla period and earthen fortresses have been discovered. Therefore, before the start of full-scale construction, a detailed excavation survey for the preservation of buried cultural heritage was essential.

Over the past three years, Yeonggwang County diligently conducted these detailed surveys, completing them in June this year. As a result, it became possible to develop the park in a way that harmonizes the preservation of cultural heritage with development. Accordingly, the Seongsan Neighborhood Park project has moved from the planning stage to the implementation stage.

The core facility of Seongsan Neighborhood Park is undoubtedly the 18-hole garden-style park golf course. Each hole will feature a garden theme, creating a multi-purpose space where visitors can enjoy sports, relaxation, and scenic views all at once.

It is anticipated to become a key feature that enhances not only the park’s athletic facilities but also its overall landscape and user value.

In addition, the entire park will be designed as an open space accessible to everyone, regardless of age or gender. The layout and flow of the park have been planned to accommodate a wide range of users, including park golf players, residents who enjoy walking, and visiting families.

Once this urban park, where people can enjoy nature close to their daily lives, is completed, it is expected to have a positive impact not only on residents' quality of life but also on the region's image.

Park golf, compared to traditional golf, offers superior accessibility and affordability, and places less physical strain on players, making it an easily enjoyable sport for people of all ages. In particular, it provides health benefits and opportunities for regular interaction and social connection among seniors, thereby contributing positively to the revitalization of the local community.

Some of these changes are already becoming visible. Earlier this year, Yeonggwang County opened two park golf practice holes for beginners within Seongsan Neighborhood Park. Named 'Rose Hole' (No. 1) and 'Camellia Hole' (No. 2), these practice holes serve not only as park golf practice areas but also as garden-style spaces, and have become popular spots for residents to walk and enjoy outings.

A Yeonggwang County official stated, "The garden-style park golf course at Seongsan Neighborhood Park will be more than just a sports facility; it will become a green urban retreat where all residents can enjoy leisure and relaxation. We will ensure the smooth progress of construction and establish it as a representative, resident-oriented park that everyone can appreciate."
