Macron, Former Annual Leader, Falls to Second

On December 26, Yonhap News reported, citing the French media outlet Ouest-France, the results of this annual survey. The survey was conducted by the media monitoring platform Tagaday.

Since 2013, Tagaday has ranked the top 1,000 most reported individuals in French media each year. This year, the survey covered 5,400 news programs and 3,000 print and online publications from January 1 to December 15. As a result, President Trump was mentioned in approximately 947,000 pieces of content, making him the overwhelming leader with about 270,000 more mentions than the second place.

This means President Trump’s name appeared in an average of 113 pieces of content per hour. The media analyzed that the large volume of coverage was due to his media saturation strategy, his various decisions and the responses to them, as well as incidents involving President Trump himself.

President Macron, who had never lost the top spot in previous years, was pushed to second place for the first time. Content mentioning President Macron reached only about 671,000 pieces. The reasons cited include the current political situation in France, with the government and parliament regaining leadership, which led to a more dispersed media focus.

Besides these two leaders, the top 10 included Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Among French politicians, Francois Bayrou, current and former Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu, and former President Nicolas Sarkozy-who published a prison diary after 21 days in detention-were also in the top 10. Marine Le Pen, the National Rally (RN) lawmaker and far-right presidential candidate, was the only woman among the top 10, ranking eighth.
