Jindo County in South Jeolla Province announced that it will hold the "2025 Sunset, 2026 Sunrise Event" at six of the region's representative tourist attractions to bid farewell to the last sunset of 2025 and welcome the first sunrise of 2026.
The sunset event will take place at Sebangnakjo in Jisan-myeon, while the sunrise events will be held at Cheolmasan in Jindo-eup, Jindo Tower in Gunnae-myeon, Gagye Beach in Gogun-myeon, Cheomchalsan in Uisin-myeon, and Hajodo Lighthouse in Jodo-myeon.
Sebangnakjo in Jisan-myeon, where the sunset event will be held, is recognized by the Korea Meteorological Administration as the southernmost and best sunset viewing spot on the Korean Peninsula. It is a nationally renowned destination where visitors can admire the magnificent red sunset over the countless islands of the Dadohae archipelago.
Additionally, it has been selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as the best scenic spot in the southwesternmost part of the Korean Peninsula, and by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport as one of the 100 most beautiful roads in Korea, continuously attracting tourists.
The Sebangnakjo sunset event will be held on December 31 from 4:00 p.m., featuring a year-end concert, traditional performances, a wish sotdae installation, and a sunset photo exhibition, among various programs, allowing visitors to meaningfully conclude the year.
The sunrise events to welcome the new year will be held simultaneously at Cheolmasan, Jindo Tower, Gagye Beach, Cheomchalsan, and Hajodo Lighthouse from 6:30 a.m. on January 1, 2026, organized by social volunteer groups from five towns and townships.
At the sunrise event venues, programs such as a prayer ritual, sharing of rice cake soup, traditional performances, and burning of the daljip will take place, wishing for peace and hope in the new year.
A county official stated, "Jindo, the Treasure Island, is the most beautiful place to witness the end of one year and the beginning of the next. We hope that both residents and visitors will warmly conclude the past year and start 2026 with hope and excitement through the crimson sunset at Sebangnakjo and the vibrant sunrise."
