Received the Highest (A) Grade in Ministry of the Interior and Safety Evaluation
Field-Oriented Price Policies Prove Effective
Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province was recently selected as an 'Outstanding' local government, receiving the highest provisional grade (A) for the second consecutive year in the '2025 Local Price Stability Management Evaluation' organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. In this evaluation, which covered 243 local governments nationwide, Gapyeong County achieved results placing it in the top 5% among cities and counties, and was recognized as a model case for price stabilization policies.
This evaluation focused on three main areas: △ management of local public utility charges, △ support for the activation of Good Price Stores, and △ efforts to stabilize local prices. Notably, this year the proportion of qualitative assessment was expanded to emphasize the effectiveness of policies, and the scoring for efforts to prevent price gouging during festivals and vacation seasons was significantly increased, adding further significance to the evaluation.
Despite high inflation, Gapyeong County strengthened its field-oriented response system, earning high marks. The county conducted regular joint on-site inspections by relevant departments ahead of festivals and the summer vacation season, operated a price gouging reporting center, and carried out campaigns to eradicate unfair business practices, focusing on creating a trustworthy tourism environment.
The county also differentiated its support for Good Price Stores. Rather than simply designating stores, it provided customized supplies reflecting each store's operating conditions and promoted support for public utility charges, thereby helping to alleviate actual management burdens. This close-knit support was credited with encouraging voluntary participation in price stabilization efforts.
In addition, Gapyeong County reduced the burden on residents by freezing and discounting local public utility charges such as water and sewage fees, and has closely monitored local price trends through regular surveys conducted by price monitoring personnel.
A Gapyeong County official stated, "Being selected as an outstanding institution for two consecutive years is thanks to the residents and small business owners who have worked together for price stabilization despite the challenging conditions of high inflation," adding, "We will continue to prioritize field-oriented price stabilization policies and pursue administration that provides tangible benefits to the local economy."
