Naju City in South Jeolla Province will invest a total of 1.8 billion won to improve the livestock distribution environment and strengthen the competitiveness of its Hanwoo beef brand by modernizing the livestock market.

On December 26, Naju City announced that it had been selected as the sole recipient in the province for the '2026 Livestock Distribution Facility Modernization Support Project' promoted by South Jeolla Province.

With this selection, Naju City has secured a project budget totaling 1.8 billion won (50% funded by the province, 30% by the city, and 20% self-funded). From January to December 2026, the city plans to modernize the livestock market operated by the Naju Livestock Cooperative Association.

The Livestock Distribution Facility Modernization Support Project aims to improve the efficiency and hygiene standards of livestock distribution and establish a stable foundation for livestock product distribution by upgrading outdated livestock market structures and improving trading environments.

Naju City plans to comprehensively improve the user environment by expanding, rebuilding, and renovating aging facilities at the livestock market, thereby creating conditions for livestock farmers and distributors to conduct transactions more safely and systematically.

The Naju Livestock Market is a key distribution facility that serves as the main livestock trading hub in South Jeolla Province, handling the largest volume of transactions in the region.

Despite being a major market used by many farmers and stakeholders, and maintaining an excellent quarantine management system without outbreaks of livestock epidemics such as foot-and-mouth disease, there have been ongoing calls for environmental improvements due to aging facilities.

This project is also significant as it aligns with Naju City's ongoing efforts to foster its Hanwoo beef brand, 'Najudeulaechan Hanwoo.'

The city has been gradually pursuing premiumization and the establishment of a distribution system to overcome the structural limitations of the local Hanwoo industry, which has struggled to receive fair value due to the absence of a recognized brand.

Mayor Yoon Byung-tae of Naju stated, "Modernizing the livestock market is not only essential for improving the efficiency of livestock distribution, but also a key project that will stabilize the income of livestock farmers and strengthen the competitiveness of the local livestock industry. We expect the systematic development of distribution infrastructure and the fostering of the Hanwoo brand to contribute to the sustainable growth of the region's livestock sector."
