Significantly Reduces Time Required to Secure Firefighting Water

Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jinseon) announced on the 26th that, in collaboration with the Yangpyeong Fire Station, it has installed the "No. 1 Natural Water Intake Device" at Daepyeong Reservoir in Daepyeong-ri, Jipyeong-myeon, thereby significantly strengthening the initial response capabilities in fire-prone areas.

The natural water intake device is a facility designed to rapidly utilize natural water sources, such as reservoirs, as firefighting water in rural and mountainous areas where there is no water supply system or where firefighting water is insufficient in the event of a large-scale fire. Since securing an adequate supply of firefighting water in the early stages of a fire is of utmost importance, this installation is considered a meaningful achievement in enhancing the region's fire response system.

This first natural water intake device was installed at Daepyeong Reservoir in Jipyeong-myeon with the active cooperation of the Yangpyeong, Gwangju, and Seoul branches of the Korea Rural Community Corporation, which manages the reservoir. The system enables fire trucks to immediately draw and use reservoir water through the device in the event of a fire in nearby villages or forest-adjacent areas. As a result, the time required to secure firefighting water will be significantly reduced, and the success rate of early fire suppression is also expected to increase substantially.

Yangpyeong County Governor Jeon Jinseon stated, "The natural water intake device is an essential infrastructure for protecting the lives and property of county residents in the event of a fire," and added, "Starting with this first installation, we will gradually expand firefighting facilities utilizing natural water sources, focusing on areas without water supply systems and fire-prone regions."
