Remodeling of the Earthquake-Damaged Heunghae Daycare Center
Reborn as a Hub for Infant Care
With the completion of the Pohang City Ainuri Center, it will serve as the control tower for supporting infant care and childcare services.
On December 26, Pohang City held the completion ceremony for the Pohang City Ainuri Center and officially began operating this hub facility, which will comprehensively support infant care and childcare policies.

The Ainuri Center is a key institution that systematically supports the overall childcare policies of Pohang City, including daycare center support, capacity building for childcare staff, and support for parents.
Previously operated within the Lifelong Learning Center, the center has now been relocated to an independent facility following its completion, establishing a more professional and stable operational foundation.
This project involved remodeling the former Heunghae Municipal Daycare Center, which had suffered earthquake damage, into a two-story building with a total floor area of 322.6 square meters, with a total project cost of 1 billion KRW.
The project was selected for the Gyeongbuk Province’s ‘Low Birthrate Fund Distribution Project’ and carries added significance as it has transformed a disaster-damaged facility into a childcare and care space for infants and toddlers.
The center is equipped with independent spaces such as offices and meeting rooms, which is expected to greatly enhance the professionalism and efficiency of childcare administration and support work. As a result, the center’s ability to support local daycare centers and childcare sites is also expected to be further strengthened.
The Pohang City Ainuri Center supports the operation of four toy libraries and two kids’ cafes in the region, and runs a variety of programs for infants, parents, and childcare staff, including training for childcare staff and parents, as well as daycare center support projects.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, “The Pohang City Ainuri Center is an important infrastructure that provides integrated support for infant care and childcare. We will continue to expand childcare policies to create a city environment where it is easier to have and raise children.”
