Geumsan County has identified that the core consumer group is men in their 40s and 50s, and that the areas near the Post Office Intersection and Geumsan-eup Administrative Welfare Center Intersection lead in both floating population and sales volume, serving as the economic heart of Geumsan. This conclusion is based on three years of big data analysis.

Geumsan County announced that, according to its analysis of big data on commercial districts in Geumsan-using telecommunications floating population and credit card sales data from January 2022 to March 2025-the core consumer group consists of men in their 40s and 50s.

During this period, the total credit card sales in major commercial districts of Geumsan County amounted to approximately 456.6 billion won. Consumers in their 40s and 50s accounted for an overwhelming 58.85% of total card sales, demonstrating their dominant purchasing power. This was followed by those in their 60s and older at 23.53%, and those in their 20s and 30s at 17.50%.

Additionally, men accounted for 65% of total card sales, while women accounted for 35%, meaning male consumption was about 1.9 times higher than that of females. In particular, male spending was prominent in sectors such as agricultural supplies and transportation and delivery services.

By commercial district, the areas near the Post Office Intersection and the Geumsan-eup Administrative Welfare Center Intersection ranked first and second in both floating population and sales volume, confirming their role as the economic heart of Geumsan.

The Geumsan Ginseng Market saw a sharp increase in sales during the fall (third quarter), when the World Ginseng Festival is held, and there was a noticeable rise in the influx of elderly consumers aged 60 and above, who have a high proportion of health food purchases.

The Majon-ri commercial district in Chubu-myeon showed a high proportion of restaurant sales, thanks to its proximity to a university and its status as a key transportation hub.

This analysis was conducted to move away from intuition-based practices and establish scientific, data-driven policies to support small business owners.

Kim Daehee, an official in the Economic Division, stated, "Through big data analysis, we were able to clearly identify who the main customers of our local commercial districts are and which sectors are strong. Based on this data, we will implement policies to revitalize commercial districts that provide practical support for small business owners."
