On December 26, President Lee Jaemyung sent New Year's greeting cards for 2026 to key figures from various sectors ahead of the new year.
Through the greeting card, President Lee stated, "Despite countless challenges and hardships, we have built today's Republic of Korea by trusting and relying on each other," adding, "I am confident that we can overcome any difficulties that lie ahead as long as we face them together." He also said, "I feel great pride in being able to accompany the great people of Korea on this meaningful journey."
An official from the presidential office said, "This year's New Year's greeting card serves as a reminder that each and every citizen is the true owner of the Republic of Korea, and it reflects the President's governing philosophy of overcoming this era of challenges together with the people." The official added, "We also aimed to convey a message of opening a new chapter for Korea's progress together with the people from Cheong Wa Dae, a symbolic space that connects the past and the future."
The recipients of the greeting card include those who have dedicated themselves to national development and the stability of people's livelihoods, national merit awardees, socially disadvantaged groups, foreign leaders, and overseas Koreans. In addition, centenarians who have contributed to social progress and expectant parents set to give birth next year were newly included as recipients. The presidential office explained, "This is intended to further strengthen the meaning of inclusion and solidarity across generations."
The greeting card features a painting of Cheong Wa Dae and its surrounding scenery in the style of traditional Korean landscape painting, symbolizing its role as the center of national affairs. The presidential office also explained that graphic techniques using dots and lines were employed to visually represent the future of Korea as it advances based on artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation.
