"Passing Namsan Tower"... U.S. Releases 'Santa Tracking' Footage

NORAD: "Sleigh Movement Confirmed by Radar"
Flying Over Central Seoul: Yeouido, Namsan, Jamsil, and More

On Christmas Eve, Santa Claus was spotted flying over South Korea in his sleigh, as tracked by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).

At around 11:20 p.m. KST on the 24th, NORAD posted a video on its official Santa tracking channel, announcing, "Santa has arrived in Korea and is delivering presents." The released footage showed Santa's sleigh flying over downtown Seoul, passing landmarks such as the 63 Building in Yeouido, Namsan Seoul Tower, and near Lotte World Tower in Jamsil. Rudolph, with his red nose, led the sleigh, followed by several reindeer, and a sack of gifts was loaded in the back.

According to the route information provided by NORAD, Santa departed from the North Pole around 6:00 p.m. that day, starting in the Russian Far East and then touring the Asia-Pacific region. After passing through Japan, he arrived in the skies above Jeju just a few minutes after leaving Okinawa, then traveled over Busan and Daejeon, passed through Seoul, and continued on to the northern part of the Korean Peninsula and northeastern China.

NORAD, a joint air defense organization operated by the United States and Canada, has been virtually tracking and releasing Santa's journey every Christmas season since 1956. This event originated in the 1950s during the Cold War, when children accidentally called the military while trying to reach Santa by phone. A military commander cleverly responded to the children's questions, giving rise to a tradition that continues to this day.

NORAD uses radar and satellite systems to estimate Santa's movements and also explains that it detects his location by capturing the infrared signal emitted from Rudolph's red nose.

A NORAD official stated, "Santa comes while children are asleep," and emphasized, "It is important to go to bed early on Christmas Eve." The Santa tracking service is available to anyone worldwide through the official website, YouTube, and social media platforms.
