Singer Jung Dongwon (18) will fulfill his mandatory military service by enlisting in the Marine Corps after graduating from high school.

On December 24, his agency Showplay Entertainment announced, "Jung Dongwon applied to the Marine Corps and recently received final acceptance. He is scheduled to enter the Marine Corps Education and Training Group on February 23, 2026."

Jung Dongwon's decision to volunteer for the Marine Corps reflects a long-held personal resolve. The agency stated, "We respect Jung Dongwon's choice and will continue to support him unwaveringly until he completes his military service and returns in good health."

There will be no official event on the day of enlistment. An agency representative said, "Since the entrance ceremony is attended by many service members and their families, we respectfully ask fans to refrain from visiting the site for safety reasons. Please send your warm support in spirit only."

Born in 2007, Jung Dongwon is currently attending Seoul Performing Arts High School and will begin his military service immediately after graduating in February next year. He gained popularity through TV Chosun's "Mr. Trot" in 2020 and has since been active as both a singer and actor. Recently, he also performed on stage as his alter ego, K-pop idol JD1.

Meanwhile, Jung Dongwon was recently embroiled in controversy after it was revealed that he drove without a license as a minor. However, prosecutors issued a suspension of indictment in this case.
