Jaegu Goryeong Hyangwoo Association held a large-scale hometown event in Daegu and reaffirmed their commitment to unity and solidarity for the development of Goryeong.
On December 23, the Jaegu Goryeong Alumni Association successfully hosted the event at the Aetern? Hall on the 5th floor of the Laonzena Hotel in Suseong-gu, Daegu, with over 500 alumni and guests in attendance.
The event was attended by Oh Myunghwan, President of the Jaegu Goryeong Alumni Association; Lee Donghwan, President of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Residents' Association; Lee Namcheol, Mayor of Goryeong County; Lee Cheolho, Chairman of the Goryeong County Council; Cho Jaegu, Mayor of Nam-gu; Lee Taehun, Mayor of Dalseo-gu; as well as congratulatory messages from National Assembly members Yoon Jaeok and Jeong Heeyong. Numerous key figures from politics and government graced the occasion with their presence.
In his welcoming remarks, President Oh Myunghwan stated, "The time when all of you, who are doing your best in your respective places, gather together is the very strength of Goryeong," and emphasized, "The Jaegu Goryeong Alumni Association will continue to grow into an organization that provides real support for the development of our hometown, based on trust and solidarity among alumni."
Lee Donghwan, President of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Residents' Association, said in his congratulatory address, "The alumni association is a precious link connecting people to people, and region to region," and added, "The unity demonstrated by the Jaegu Goryeong Alumni Association is delivering positive energy to the entire alumni community of Daegu and Gyeongbuk."
Lee Namcheol, Mayor of Goryeong County, remarked, "The interest and support from alumni active in Daegu are a strong driving force for county administration," and promised, "Goryeong County will meet those expectations through sustainable growth and by improving the quality of life for our residents."
Lee Cheolho, Chairman of the Goryeong County Council, stated in his congratulatory speech, "The support and advice from alumni who have left the region are an important foundation for Goryeong's development," and pledged, "Based on the voices of our residents, the county council will work closely with the administration to further strengthen the policy foundation for Goryeong's continued growth."
Cho Jaegu, Mayor of Nam-gu, said, "The network of alumni who have moved away is a key asset for fostering mutual prosperity between regions," and added, "Through cooperation and exchange between local governments, we will create cities that grow together."
Lee Taehun, Mayor of Dalseo-gu, also extended his congratulations, saying, "The strong cohesion of the alumni association is a driving force for the local community," and expressed hope that "Goryeong and Daegu will become even more closely connected through cultural, economic, and human exchanges."
This event was evaluated as a venue that went beyond fostering exchange and harmony among alumni, serving as an opportunity to share the future vision and roles for their hometown, Goryeong. The Jaegu Goryeong Alumni Association plans to continue serving as a focal point for the alumni community through regular communication and a variety of activities.
With local extinction and population decline emerging as common challenges for the region, the event reaffirmed the value and potential of "alumni human assets" who have moved away. The evolving role of alumni associations-from simple social gatherings to networks linking policy, administration, and the regional economy-is becoming a key pillar for regional competitiveness, making this event all the more significant.
