According to the city on December 24, the Disaster Response Safe Korea Training is a nationwide comprehensive drill that simulates large-scale disasters that could actually occur, aiming to inspect the government-wide response system.
In this year's evaluation, the city received high scores in all areas, including the continuity and effectiveness of its disaster management capabilities and its organic cooperation with related organizations. As a result, Jeongeup City has been honored as an "excellent institution" for three consecutive years, from 2023 to this year, demonstrating its robust administrative capacity for safety.
Previously, in October, the city conducted a large-scale joint drill with more than 280 participants from 17 related organizations and groups, including Jeongeup Fire Station, Jeongeup Police Station, and the 3rd Battalion of the Army's 8098th Unit.
The drill at that time simulated a complex disaster scenario in which a forest fire escalates into a major blaze, leading to a gas explosion. Despite the urgent situation, the participating organizations demonstrated close cooperation and rapid initial response capabilities, successfully completing the exercise.
The city focused on substance rather than formality, avoiding showmanship and strengthening the quality of the training. Instead of merely checking manuals, Jeongeup City adopted "realistic scenarios" that reflect annually changing disaster types, thereby increasing the intensity of the drills.
Furthermore, after each drill, the city conducted thorough feedback processes and immediately incorporated identified issues into the on-site action manuals. This continuous enhancement of response capabilities was cited as a decisive factor in receiving this year's award.
Mayor Lee Haksoo stated, "Being selected as an excellent institution for three consecutive years is a meaningful achievement made possible by the united efforts of all related organizations and citizens to create a safer Jeongeup. Moving forward, we will establish an even more sophisticated and robust disaster response system to perfectly protect the lives and property of our citizens from sudden disasters."
Meanwhile, the city plans to further accelerate the establishment of a smart safety management system by introducing a disaster monitoring system utilizing information and communication technology (ICT), aiming to proactively respond to future disasters without resting on its laurels.
