On December 24, CJ CheilJedang officially launched its healthy snack brand "Basak" and announced the debut of "Basak Popcorn" along with new "Basak Chip" products.

Basak Chip is a high-protein snack that is baked rather than fried, and is made by upcycling broken rice grains that cannot be used in the production of "Hetbahn." The Basak Chip Herb Salt Flavor adds herbal notes such as oregano and thyme to the mild rice chip. The Basak Chip Spam Flavor captures the unique savory and salty taste of Spam, and is produced using a non-frying method.

Basak Popcorn is made using the kettle-cooked method and features "Butterfly Corn" specifically for popcorn, resulting in a crispy exterior and a soft interior. In addition, it is formulated with whole grains to provide dietary fiber, allowing consumers to enjoy a satisfying snack without guilt. The Basak Popcorn Herb Salt Flavor adds herbal and nutty notes to the popcorn, while the Basak Popcorn Spam Flavor differentiates itself from other popcorn products on the market with its unique taste.

Basak Chip was the first business discovered through CJ CheilJedang’s in-house food venture program "INNO 100," and was launched in April 2022 based on ideas from Millennials & Gen Z employees. The product has expanded into overseas markets including the United States, Malaysia, and Hong Kong, and has surpassed cumulative sales of 2 million bags as of last month.

A CJ CheilJedang representative stated, "We will continue to expand the lineup of our healthy snack brand 'Basak,' which is designed to meet consumer needs and expectations by considering taste, nutrition, and sustainability."
