Until now, the city has supported usage fees for research equipment owned by the Gyeonggi Institute of Convergence Technology and the Korea Nanotechnology Research Society. However, starting next year, research equipment owned by the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials will also be included in the support program.
The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials is a government-funded research institute responsible for national machinery technology research, conducting studies to apply manufacturing, machinery, and materials technologies to industrial sites. It operates the only specialized semiconductor equipment research group among government-funded research institutes and is equipped with precision equipment and testing and reliability evaluation facilities that can be used for product development, testing, and verification.
Eligible companies are semiconductor materials, components, and equipment firms with at least one of their headquarters, factories, or research institutes located in Yongin. Selected companies will receive support for up to 70% of their research equipment usage fees, with a maximum of 15 million won.
Interested companies must submit their applications to the Semiconductor Policy Division's Semiconductor Technology Support Team by January 16 of next year. Detailed application procedures and support plans can be found in the notice section of the Yongin City website.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "We have expanded the scope of support so that companies can utilize the excellent research equipment of research institutes more affordably and practically," adding, "We hope this expansion of support will contribute to the technological development and competitiveness of semiconductor materials, components, and equipment companies."
