On December 24, the city of Seongnam in Gyeonggi Province announced plans to build a complex cultural facility by the end of 2027 at 400 Yeosu-dong, Jungwon-gu (across from City Hall on Seongnam-daero), which will include a library, exercise classrooms, and music rooms.

The city decided to convert the vacant lot, which is currently being used as a temporary parking lot, into a cultural and leisure facility for residents, reflecting the opinions of the local community.

The Yeosu-dong complex cultural facility will be constructed on a 1,660-square-meter site with a total project cost of 32.1 billion won (including 4.9 billion won for land acquisition). The facility will have three underground floors and four above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 7,420 square meters.

The first to fourth floors above ground will house a small library, exercise classrooms, music rooms, a small theater, a multipurpose hall, a drone experience room, and cultural classrooms, among other amenities.

The three basement floors will provide parking for 63 vehicles.

Of the total project cost (32.1 billion won), the city has allocated 12.6 billion won in next year's main budget as a priority for the construction of the Yeosu-dong complex cultural facility.

The construction contractor has already been selected, and groundbreaking is scheduled for February next year. The facility is expected to open in the first half of 2028 upon completion.

After opening, the facility will offer a variety of cultural, artistic, and recreational sports programs, and spaces such as the small theater and multipurpose hall will be available for residents to rent, supporting independent cultural activities.

Shin Sangjin, Mayor of Seongnam, stated, "The Yeosu-dong complex cultural facility is a community-oriented space that comprehensively reflects the cultural, sports, and leisure needs of local residents. We expect it will make a significant contribution to revitalizing the local community and improving residents' quality of life."
