Discussion on Building a Safe Organizational Culture

This workshop was organized to share the history and mid- to long-term development strategies of the medical center, discuss the operational direction of the nursing department, and explore the roles of managers in preventing patient safety incidents and building an organizational culture that fosters a safe hospital environment.
On this day, Director Lee Changhun introduced the growth process of the medical center based on his more than 30 years of experience and dedication to the institution, emphasizing the sense of duty among nursing managers. He also shared updates on the development of a world-class cancer treatment cluster and the progress of the radiation medical science complex centered around the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center, outlining the mid- to long-term development direction the institution should pursue in the future.
Following this, Heesoon Jang, Head of the Nursing Department, shared the current operational status, major responsibilities, and immediate challenges of the department. She also discussed future plans, including new projects scheduled for 2026, and exchanged opinions with the participants.
In a special lecture, Haein Jung, QPS Section Chief at Samsung Changwon Hospital, delivered a presentation on “Strategies for Managers to Prevent Safety Incidents.” Jung introduced the status of safety incident reporting at various hospitals, emphasized that patient safety is a common challenge for all medical institutions, and explained strategies to prevent falls and minimize injuries that may occur in integrated nursing care wards.
In particular, Jung stressed that “efficiency should never take precedence over safety, and the awareness and attitude of management are crucial,” highlighting the role of managers in establishing a culture of safety incident reporting and resonating with the audience.
After the lecture, Yoonhwa Kim, Head of Medical Quality Management, gave a presentation on “Creating an Organizational Culture to Prevent Safety Incidents,” sharing the current status and analysis of safety incidents at the medical center. The workshop concluded with discussions and presentations on topics such as medication, falls, reporting, and communication.
Hospital Director Beopjong Kim stated, “Thanks to the dedication of nursing managers who actively fulfill their roles in various departments, the institution continues to develop. I hope this patient safety workshop will serve as a meaningful opportunity to foster a healthy and safe organizational culture at the medical center.”
