This appointment ceremony was organized to support the new beginning of the Resident Autonomy Committee members for Hwado-eup, Jingeon-eup, Toegyewon-eup, Sudong-myeon, and Pyeongnae-dong, whose terms will commence in 2026. It also aimed to provide capacity-building training on the formation and operation of the Resident Autonomy Committees and the roles of their members. The event was attended by Chairman Jo Sungdae, city council members, Namyangju Mayor Joo Gwangdeok, provincial council members, and approximately 140 newly appointed Resident Autonomy Committee members from the five towns and districts.
The ceremony proceeded in the following order: opening, congratulatory remarks, presentation of appointment certificates, pledge flower drawing, and capacity-building training.
In his congratulatory address, Chairman Jo Sungdae stated, "I sincerely congratulate all the newly appointed Resident Autonomy Committee members. Being selected as a committee member is a choice that reflects great trust and expectation to serve the local community and represent the voices of residents. It is therefore a meaningful and proud position, but also one that comes with significant responsibility."
He continued, "As you carry out your activities in the Resident Autonomy Committee, communicating with residents is important, but above all, in order to reflect various local issues in policies and budgets, it is essential to actively communicate with your district city council members. In the future, when the Resident Autonomy Committees become independent and operate on their own, if you start building strong foundations and roots in close collaboration with your district council members from the outset, you will be able to create a more solid base."
Chairman Jo also stated, "The Namyangju City Council will continue to do its utmost to provide institutional support and communication so that all committee members can carry out their activities with pride."
