On this day, Chuncheon City (Mayor Yuk Donghan) held the completion ceremony for the dementia ward at Chuncheon City Geriatric Hospital, officially establishing a public healthcare infrastructure dedicated to the treatment of severe dementia patients. The event was attended by Chuncheon Mayor Yuk Donghan, city officials, and medical staff.
On this day, Mayor Yuk Donghan toured the ward with officials. The ward is designed to provide specialized diagnosis, treatment, and care services for patients with severe dementia accompanied by behavioral and psychological symptoms. Mayor Yuk Donghan stated, "We will continue to expand the public healthcare system so that dementia patients and their families can receive treatment and care with peace of mind within the local community."
The newly completed dementia ward was established after being selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s national funding project for public nursing hospital dementia wards in 2022. A total of 5.6 billion won was invested to construct a three-story building with 32 beds and a total floor area of 1,285 square meters.
With the completion of this dementia ward, Chuncheon City plans to pursue designation as Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province’s first dementia safety hospital. Through this, the city aims to provide more stable medical and care services for local dementia patients and their families.
Son Eunjin, Director of Chuncheon City Health Center, said, "We are thoroughly preparing the personnel and systems to ensure the smooth operation of the dementia ward," adding, "We will create a treatment environment where patients and their caregivers can feel safe."
