Master of Korean Painting Heo Mun Imjeon Donates "Unmu Landscape" to Chuncheon City

The artistic lineage of the Heo family, which traces back to the great master of Joseon Southern School painting, Heo Ryeon (Sochi), has now reached Chuncheon.

On December 23, Chuncheon City (Mayor Yuk Donghan) received a donation of an artwork from artist Heo Mun Imjeon, the fourth-generation painter of the Unrim Sanbang Heo family, during a meeting at the mayor's office.

The donated piece is a fan-shaped Korean painting completed using Heo Mun Imjeon's unique "Unmu landscape" technique. Measuring 80cm by 50cm, the work is characterized by its composition, which layers mist and landscapes as if stacking them one upon another. The donated artwork is scheduled to be exhibited within Chuncheon City Hall, allowing citizens to experience high-quality traditional Korean painting in their everyday environment.

The Heo family, beginning with Heo Ryeon (Sochi), followed by Heo Hyeong (Misan), Heo Geon (Namnong), and now Heo Mun Imjeon, is recognized as a leading traditional lineage of the Korean Southern School of painting.

Artist Heo Mun Imjeon stated, "I am honored to share a part of our family's artistic heritage with the citizens of Chuncheon," adding, "I hope this work will provide an opportunity for people to feel closer to traditional Korean painting."

Mayor Yuk Donghan responded, "It is meaningful to share a work that represents a traditional artistic lineage with our citizens. We will continue to ensure that art becomes a natural part of everyday life in our city."
