[Content Commerce] "Preparing for a Body Profile Helps Prevent Dementia"... Health Tips from a Practicing Pharmacist

Sharing Pharmaceutical Knowledge through the "Pharmacist Lee Jinsu" YouTube Channel
Surge in Purchase Inquiries Leads to Launch of Commerce Business

"I want to become one of the top five pharmacists in Korea. I want to be remembered as a friendly pharmacist who is responsible for the health of the whole family."

Jinsu Lee, CEO of Gomdori Farm, majored in materials science and engineering in college before transferring to a college of pharmacy at the age of 25. After taking the entrance exam four times over four years, he was finally admitted to the pharmacy school and obtained his pharmacist license upon graduating in February 2022. He is currently working as a pharmacist in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.

The name of his YouTube channel is 'Pharmacist Lee Jinsu.' When he first started YouTube in 2020, the channel was called 'Pharmacy Student Lee Jinsu,' and mainly featured content to help prospective pharmacy students prepare for entrance exams. Later, as the pharmacy school admission system shifted from transfer-based to a new system based on college entrance exam scores, the channel reached a turning point. Around this time, as he officially became a pharmacist, he changed the channel name to 'Pharmacist Lee Jinsu.'

As the name suggests, the 'Pharmacist Lee Jinsu' channel features a pharmacist who appears directly in the content to share pharmaceutical knowledge. The channel consistently uploads a wide range of content, from information on various over-the-counter medicines available at pharmacies, to tips on choosing supplements, and the realities of working as a pharmacist. As the channel attracted viewers interested in health, it amassed more than 30,000 subscribers. While the main audience in the early days consisted of young people interested in pharmacy school admissions, the channel's viewership has expanded to include middle-aged and older viewers since its transformation.

About 70% of the channel's content is in the form of YouTube Shorts. Lee determined that delivering information in a short, fast, and entertaining format is the most effective approach. For example, one video that introduces combinations of athlete's foot medications available at pharmacies is only 13 seconds long, but has reached 160,000 views. Long-form content, such as "Why I Recommend Vitamin B Complex as a Starter Supplement" and live streaming sessions that allow real-time interaction with viewers, are also very popular.

Lee has recently emphasized the growing importance of delivering accurate pharmaceutical knowledge, as damage from AI-generated fake videos increases. He said, "The older the viewer, the harder it is to distinguish videos convincingly made by AI, so many people are deceived by fake information. As a result, it's unfortunate to see people buying low-quality products or acquiring incorrect knowledge."

He added, "Having some background knowledge about pharmaceuticals helps people use the right medicine for their symptoms and physical condition. Even commonly used medicines like nasal sprays for colds can actually cause nasal congestion if used for a long time, so my goal is to provide clear instructions on proper usage."

As he posted content such as "Supplements Actually Taken by a Practicing Pharmacist," purchase inquiries from viewers naturally increased. In response, he entered the commerce business last spring, collaborating with a supplement specialist company. He opened a store through the e-commerce platform Cafe24 and introduces products in conjunction with the 'Store' tab and content on his YouTube channel.

Lee has strict criteria for selecting products. He checks what ingredients are used, whether they contain sufficient active ingredients, and only registers products that he has personally tested. While he often introduces supplements that are trending, he mainly focuses on products that adhere to the basics. In fact, there have been cases where he consulted with viewers about supplements for exercise, which led to purchases. For example, he recommended two or three products, such as arginine supplements, to a viewer concerned about doping issues from taking the wrong supplements, and received feedback that the viewer was very satisfied.

Lee plans to open his own pharmacy next year. He said, "The strength of the 'Pharmacist Lee Jinsu' channel is that viewers can naturally make purchasing decisions while obtaining the information they want from the content. I plan to open a pharmacy as early as next year and will share the process with viewers through my content."
