GS Engineering & Construction announced on December 23 that it has donated funds collected by its employees to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the world's largest non-profit international conservation organization.
The total amount of the donation delivered this time is 72 million won. This sum consists of 36 million won raised over the past year by GS Engineering & Construction employees, combined with an equal amount contributed by the company itself.
The donated funds will be used for one of WWF's key programs: protecting the endangered red-crowned cranes and their habitats in the DMZ and Cheorwon areas. During the wintering season, the company plans to help ensure the cranes can live safely and healthily by removing barbed wire fences, creating rice paddies, and supporting the coexistence of the ecosystem and local communities.
A representative from GS Engineering & Construction stated, "This donation is meaningful because it was raised through the participation of employees who care about the coexistence of the environment and local communities. Going forward, we will continue to share our resources with community members and pursue diverse and differentiated social contribution activities that create social value for a better future."
Meanwhile, GS Engineering & Construction has been consistently carrying out social contribution activities aimed at evenly sharing benefits with various classes and generations, based on its commitment to walking alongside local communities.
Starting this year, the company has been running the "Warm Winter Campaign" in partnership with Namchon Foundation, providing winter bedding sets, winter clothing, and heating costs to children in 12 childcare facilities in Seoul. Through these efforts, GS Engineering & Construction is helping to create a healthy growth environment for vulnerable children and actively supporting those in social blind spots.
By utilizing its expertise and human resources, the company is also creating stable study spaces (independent living preparation centers and orphanages) for protected children and youth through the "Study Rooms of Dreams and Hope" program, improving play environments for local children through the "Playgrounds of Dreams and Hope" initiative, and enhancing after-school care facilities for elementary students. These efforts help lay the foundation for future generations from low-income families in need of protection to grow up healthily.
