Outstanding Performance in Fisheries Administration Evaluation
Giving Back to the Local Community
The Marine and Fisheries Department of Yeongdeok County, North Gyeongsang Province, has set an example by donating the 3 million won prize it received for being selected as an "Outstanding Local Government" in the 2025 Fisheries Administration City and County Evaluation conducted by North Gyeongsang Province. The donation was made on December 22 and will go to support vulnerable groups within the county.

Previously, Yeongdeok County achieved recognition in the city and county evaluation organized by the East Sea Regional Headquarters of North Gyeongsang Province, receiving high marks for its comprehensive efforts in four areas: fishing vessel operations, aquaculture, distribution and processing, and fisheries transformation. The county was particularly praised for strengthening the distribution and processing infrastructure for seafood, promoting fisheries innovation, and enhancing the resilience of the fishing village economy. As a result, Yeongdeok County won awards in both the distribution and processing category and the fisheries transformation category.
In particular, the county's proactive efforts to secure large-scale project funding-such as 10 billion won for the Gyeongjeong district in Chuksan-myeon and 7.6 billion won for Gyeongjeong 1-ri and 3-ri-by actively pursuing public projects for fishing village and port regeneration in response to the wildfires in North Gyeongsang Province at the end of March, were cited as key factors in its award-winning performance.
The Marine and Fisheries Department of Yeongdeok County decided to donate the prize money to support vulnerable groups within the county who are in welfare blind spots, aiming to ensure that this achievement serves not only as an administrative accomplishment but also as an opportunity to build a better community together with local residents.
Jung Jehoon, Head of the Marine and Fisheries Department, stated, "Being selected as an outstanding local government in the fisheries administration evaluation is not just a testament to the county's administrative capabilities, but also the result of the hard work of fishermen, fisheries business representatives, and all the staff who have steadfastly supported us under challenging circumstances. We wanted to share this valuable achievement with the residents, which is why we decided to participate in the Hope 2026 Sharing Campaign."
