Official Apology Issued Following Death of Partner Company Supervisor on December 22

Samsung Heavy Industries has issued an official apology and pledged a complete suspension of operations and comprehensive measures to prevent recurrence following a fatal fall accident at its Geoje Shipyard.


On December 23, Samsung Heavy Industries CEO Choi Sung-an stated in an apology, "At around 3 p.m. on December 22, a tragic accident occurred at the Geoje Shipyard in which a work supervisor fell from a height of approximately 20 meters. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was ultimately pronounced dead." He added, "We immediately issued a complete work stoppage order for the vessel involved in the accident. This morning, we also ordered a suspension of all operations across the entire yard and plan to conduct special safety training."

CEO Choi said, "I would like to once again apologize to all concerned parties for causing great distress by failing to fulfill our safety management responsibilities. We will do our utmost to create a safe workplace free of accidents." He continued, "I sincerely offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved family, who must be devastated by this sudden tragedy, and pray for the deceased."


The previous day, at Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje Shipyard, a work supervisor from a partner company preparing for dust removal inside a crude oil carrier tank fell from a height of about 20 meters. Immediately after the accident, the company halted work on the affected vessel and now plans to suspend all operations in the yard for safety inspections and training.
