Goryeong County Wins Grand Prize in North Gyeongsang Cultural Heritage Evaluation... Four Consecutive Years of Excellence

Achievements Recognized in Securing National and Provincial Funds
Prize Money of 5 Million Won and Project Budget of 200 Million Won Secured

Goryeong County in North Gyeongsang Province has been awarded the grand prize in the "2025 City and County Cultural Heritage Sector Evaluation," conducted among 22 cities and counties in the province.

With this award, Goryeong County has secured a prize of 5 million won and a project budget of 200 million won, establishing itself as a leading local government in North Gyeongsang Province for cultural heritage administration.

Goryeong County has achieved outstanding results for four consecutive years, winning the top prize in 2022, the excellence award in 2023, the top prize again in 2024, and now the grand prize this year. This consistent recognition is attributed to the county's high performance in overall cultural heritage policy, including preservation and utilization of cultural assets, securing national funds, and systematic administrative efforts.

The evaluation was conducted for 22 local governments in the province, based on 15 detailed criteria across six categories: securing and executing national and provincial budgets for national heritage, disaster response and management of cultural heritage, new designation and promotion of cultural heritage, performance in related administrative work, results in national funding competitions, and efforts in preservation and utilization of cultural heritage.

Goryeong County received high marks for being designated as Korea's fifth historic city 20 years after the enactment of the "Special Act on the Preservation and Promotion of Historic Cities," as well as for its active efforts in restoration, maintenance, preservation, and utilization of cultural heritage. In particular, the confirmation of the "Goryeong World Heritage Exploration Center Construction Project" and the securing of national funding for the first time since the Daegaya Historic City designation drew attention.

Additionally, the "2025 National Heritage Media Art Goryeong Jisandong Ancient Tombs" project, with a total budget of 1.5 billion won, was held under the theme "Daegaya, Twelve Stars" from September 19 to October 12, attracting approximately 56,000 visitors and receiving a strong response.

In the 2026 National Heritage Administration open call project, six projects-including the "World Heritage Festival," "National Heritage Night Program," "World Heritage Utilization Program," and "Our Hometown National Heritage Utilization Project"-were selected, securing a total project budget of 3.7 billion won including national and provincial funds.

A Goryeong County official stated, "Being designated as Korea's fifth historic city and now winning the grand prize in the North Gyeongsang Province cultural heritage sector evaluation are the results of our staff's dedicated efforts in cultural heritage administration," adding, "We will do our utmost to preserve and utilize cultural heritage so that Goryeong can become a leading historical and cultural city representing Korea."
