Ottogi Provides Regular Customized Support to Korean War Veterans: "Expressing Gratitude and Respect"

This sponsorship was organized to honor the patriotic spirit of Ottogi’s late founder and honorary chairman, Ham Taeho, who was a Korean War veteran, and to reaffirm Ottogi’s commitment to remembering and supporting those who served the country. As of last month, there are about 27,000 surviving Korean War veterans, most of whom are elderly, with many passing away each year. Public interest in veterans is gradually declining, and there is an urgent need to support those facing financial hardship.

Ottogi, in cooperation with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and the Community Chest of Korea (Love Fruit), provides Ottogi products twice a year on a regular basis to veterans and their families. Taking into account the feedback from home care officers, who face difficulties in supporting meals due to the veterans’ advanced age and lack of available ingredients, Ottogi has developed customized product packages tailored to their needs.

During the summer, the packages include easily usable sauces and seasonings such as sesame oil and black pepper, while in the winter, they focus on nourishing ready-to-eat meals like samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) and shelf-stable porridge, providing practical assistance. The sponsored goods are delivered directly to each household, reflecting Ottogi’s intention to go beyond simple support and convey lasting gratitude and respect.

In addition, Ottogi has continued the founder’s patriotic spirit, embodied in the phrase “A company can only exist because the nation exists,” by hoisting a massive Taegeukgi (Korean national flag) measuring 10.5 meters wide and 7 meters tall on a 59.5-meter-high flagpole at its Daepung plant in Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province. The company also actively engages in various patriotic and memorial activities, such as supporting military units involved in front-line remains excavation, paying tribute at the National Seoul Cemetery’s Memorial Tower, and maintaining the graves of service members, in order to honor the noble spirit of the nation’s fallen heroes.

An Ottogi representative stated, “Korean War veterans are heroes our society must remember,” adding, “We will continue to show respect and honor to national patriots through long-term support, ensuring our gratitude is expressed until the very end of their lives.”
