Public Backlash Intensifies After Attending 'Stop the Arrest' Rally
"I Am Ashamed to Face My Children"
Singer Kim Heungguk, who has sparked controversy with his conservative political activities, has declared a complete break from the political world.
On December 22, Kim Heungguk announced on his YouTube channel that "It is not that I am simply stepping back from politics-I have ended it completely."
He stated, "I was never someone who wore a badge, and I only became strongly associated with politics because I supported and helped those who shared my views." He drew a clear line, saying, "Do not even think about contacting me during next year’s elections." He added, "I also want to cut ties with acquaintances I have been close to until now."
Kim Heungguk admitted, "I know the public perception of me is not good," and confessed, "This is the most dramatic fall I have ever experienced in my life." He appealed, "I am now so ashamed as a father that I am afraid to meet people and even embarrassed to face my own son and daughter."
He said, "It is right for me to return to my main profession as a broadcaster," and expressed his desire to "be reborn as a new person, as a new Kim Heungguk, and start a new life."
Kim Heungguk has continued to support conservative candidates. He publicly endorsed former President Yoon Suk-yeol and stirred controversy by shouting "Martial law is legal, impeachment is invalid" from the stage at a 'Stop the Arrest' rally in front of the presidential residence. He also joined the campaign camp of People Power Party presidential primary candidate Na Kyung-won.
Back in October, he also declared his return as a singer, stating, "Politics was never my path."
