Korea Federation of Banks Publishes Guidebook to Prevent Voice Phishing and Other Scams

Easy-to-Understand Comic and Case-Based Structure

The Korea Federation of Banks published the comprehensive guidebook "Encyclopedia for Fraud Prevention for a Safe Financial Life" on the 22nd, aiming to protect financial consumers from various scams such as telephone financial fraud (voice phishing) and to raise awareness of fraudulent tactics. The guide systematically organizes eight types of scams that frequently cause damage, including voice phishing, smishing, quishing, romance scams, used goods transaction fraud, illegal private lending, illegal youth gambling, and investment scams. It minimizes the use of technical jargon and adopts a comic and case-based structure, focusing on real-life situations that can actually occur in daily life.

In particular, the guide features a modular structure for each scam type, allowing readers to quickly and intensively review each category. Each module consists of a four-panel comic illustrating the scam scenario, explanations of key concepts, real-life case studies, a checklist for identifying suspicious situations, and guidance on how to respond if victimized.

The Korea Federation of Banks has distributed the encyclopedia to related organizations, including banks, the Youth Financial Education Council, and the Senior Financial Education Council. It also produced and released a YouTube video featuring broadcasters Song Euni and Kim Sook, as well as profiler Kwon Ilyong. The full encyclopedia and individual module e-books are available on the Korea Federation of Banks' Consumer Portal website and other platforms.

Cho Yongbyung, Chairman of the Korea Federation of Banks, stated, "As fraudulent tactics become increasingly sophisticated and advanced, new types of scams continue to emerge." He added, "We hope that the encyclopedia for fraud prevention will help all financial consumers, including those in vulnerable groups, to recognize scam tactics in advance and effectively protect themselves in their everyday lives."
