Final Broadcast on January 2 Next Year
Successor: Former JTBC Anchor Park Sungtae
Anchor Kim Hyunjung, who has hosted CBS Radio's "Kim Hyunjung's News Show" for more than 16 years, is leaving the program.
On December 22, Kim announced her departure live on air. She stated, "I believe an anchor should not be ahead of the news," and added, "I tried to delay the announcement as much as possible, but the news broke first."
Regarding some claims that she is stepping down due to pressure from President Lee Jaemyung, Kim drew a clear line. She explained, "Since last fall, my physical strength has rapidly declined," and continued, "I've been waking up at 3:30 a.m. for over a decade since 2008, so I feel I have been a bit harsh on myself."
She also cited her desire for a new challenge as a reason. "Having done the same work for a long time, I had a longing to calmly prepare for a slightly different challenge," she added.
She emphasized that the decision was her own, not the company's. "I informed the company three months ago, and I am grateful that CBS understood," she said, adding, "After much consideration, I plan to meet you again with something new in a slightly different field."
Kim's final broadcast will be on January 2 next year. Since her debut in May 2008, she has held the position for 16 years except for about one year. In 2014, the host was changed to announcer Park Jaehong, but Kim returned the following year.
"News Show" is a current affairs program broadcast live for two hours from 7 a.m. on weekdays, with 1.62 million subscribers on YouTube alone.
Her successor will be Park Sungtae, former anchor of JTBC's "Newsroom." Park began his career as a reporter at Korea Economic TV in 1999 and later served as head of the political team at JTBC's news division.
