Final Report Session for the Metropolitan Railway Network Basic Plan Held
Accelerating the Project by Pursuing Both Government Funding and Private Investment
Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province has decided to prioritize the Sincheon-Haan-Sillim Line as its top metropolitan railway network project and will consider introducing a private investment model to accelerate the project's progress.
On the 22nd, Gwangmyeong City announced that it had held the final report session for the "Gwangmyeong Area Metropolitan Railway Network Basic Plan Research Project" in the city hall's main conference room and decided to move forward with this approach.

This plan outlines both the top priorities and long-term tasks for building a railway network aimed at balanced development across the entire city and sustainable urban growth.
During the report session, the swift realization of the "Sincheon-Haan-Sillim Line" was presented as the highest-priority task. To ensure rapid progress on this route, the city is considering a dual approach: pursuing both government fiscal investment through inclusion in existing national plans and a private investment model.
This approach was also presented as a practical alternative to speed up the project during the "Policy Forum on Expanding Railway Infrastructure in Gwangmyeong City" held on the 15th.
The proposed line will connect Sincheon in Siheung, Haan in Gwangmyeong, Doksan in Geumcheon, and Sillim in Gwanak, attracting attention as a route that could help disperse commuter demand to Seoul from the southwestern metropolitan area. The city expects that, once the line is established, accessibility to Seoul will improve for the Haan-dong area of Gwangmyeong, which currently lacks a subway network.
At the report session, the city also discussed the establishment of a new railway line for the eastern part of Gwangmyeong as a long-term task. This is based on the assessment that, even if the seven railway lines currently being promoted are completed, the eastern areas of the city, such as Garidae and Sohadong, are still expected to face a shortage of railway infrastructure.
Currently, the Sinansan Line and Wolgot-Pangyo Line are under construction in the Gwangmyeong area. The Susaek-Gwangmyeong KTX project is expected to begin bidding after the basic plan is finalized as early as the first half of next year. The Gwangmyeong-Siheung Line has been confirmed as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's metropolitan transportation improvement measures, while the Sincheon-Haan-Sillim Line, GTX-D, and GTX-G are being considered for inclusion in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan.
Mayor Seungwon Park of Gwangmyeong City stated, "We will implement our railway plans to fundamentally transform the city's structure and the way our citizens live," adding, "We will focus our administrative capabilities on building a railway network that looks ahead to the next 100 years, so that Gwangmyeong can become a central hub for transportation, economy, and culture in the metropolitan area."
