Encouragement Prize in Both Policy and Income Categories at Gyeongsangbuk-do Forestry Evaluation
Yecheon County has been selected as an outstanding institution for the third consecutive year, demonstrating stable policy execution and achievements across all aspects of forestry administration.
On December 22, Yecheon County announced that it received the Encouragement Prize in both the forestry policy and forestry income categories at the "2025 Gyeongsangbuk-do Forestry Sector Institution Evaluation Awards Ceremony."
This achievement follows two consecutive years of winning the Excellence Award in the forestry resources category, further solidifying Yecheon County's status as a leading local government in forestry administration within the province.
The Gyeongsangbuk-do forestry administration evaluation is conducted for 22 cities and counties in the province, comprehensively assessing forestry policy implementation, efficiency in project execution, and on-site management performance, with the aim of improving the overall quality of forestry administration.
Yecheon County has systematically promoted disaster prevention and protection activities in forestry, such as pest and disease control, forest road management, and the installation of warning signs in landslide-prone areas, thereby strengthening field-oriented administration.
In particular, the county received high marks for proactively allocating its own budget to advance forest protection and functional enhancement projects. The continued expansion of forest resource development projects, such as afforestation and forest management, which increased both the public value and economic potential of forests, was also cited as a reason for the award.
The county also achieved significant results in the newly established forestry income category this year.
Yecheon County promoted the activation of wood utilization projects centered on the Wood Culture Experience Center, laying the foundation for the wood industry and accelerating efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the forest products industry.
As a result, at the Korea Representative Fruit Selection Contest, Son Jongsu from Hyoja-myeon won the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award in the walnut category, and Choi Unseop from Hyoja-myeon received the Korea Forest Service Chief Award, demonstrating the potential for increased income for forestry households.
A Yecheon County official stated, "Being selected as an outstanding institution in the Gyeongsangbuk-do forestry sector evaluation for three consecutive years is a valuable achievement accomplished together with our residents," adding, "We will continue to nurture forest resources as future assets for the region and create a sustainable living environment where residents can enjoy both relaxation and healing in the forest."
