Muan County in South Jeolla Province conducted a capacity-building training session for public officials on December 19 at the auditorium of the Namak Complex Community Center, focusing on new industries such as energy and artificial intelligence (AI).
This training was organized to enhance understanding of government policy tasks and recent policy trends, centering on the energy and AI sectors, which the Lee Jaemyung administration is fostering as national growth engines.
The lecture was delivered by Bae Jiyeong, Research Fellow at the Institute for Democracy, under the theme "National Policy Tasks of the Lee Jaemyung Administration and Implications for Muan County: Key Issues and Challenges for RE100 Industrial Complexes in the Era of AI and Energy Transition."
Research Fellow Bae emphasized, "The current administration's core national policy task of establishing an 'energy superhighway' can be understood as a strategy to revitalize local economies through power grid innovation. If the abundant renewable energy resources of the Honam region are combined with power grid innovation, the achievement of RE100 will serve as a strong regional competitive advantage."
The county was recently evaluated as the optimal site for the establishment of a RE100 national industrial complex in a feasibility study commissioned by South Jeolla Province, as it meets all necessary conditions such as transportation infrastructure (airport and railway), residential environment, and energy resources. Muan County is currently working with the provincial government to promote the creation of the "Muan Distributed Energy Specialized National Industrial Complex."
Kim San, Mayor of Muan County, stated, "This training was prepared to enhance public officials' understanding of government policies in line with the government's acceleration of major projects in AI and energy new industries, such as AI data centers, energy self-sufficient villages, and RE100 national industrial complexes. Going forward, we will continue to invite experts on key government policy issues, including AI and basic income, to further strengthen the capacity of public officials."
