A man in his twenties was apprehended by police in Gwangju after posting a threat online claiming that explosives had been planted at the Ministry of National Defense.
The Gwangju Seobu Police Station announced on the 22nd that they had arrested a man in his twenties, identified as Mr. A, on charges of public intimidation for posting a bomb threat on an online community.
Mr. A is suspected of posting a message titled "Explosives have been planted at the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Korea" on the online community DC Inside at around 9:30 p.m. the previous day, while at a PC cafe in Seo-gu, Gwangju.
The post specified the time of the alleged explosion as 6:00 p.m. on the 23rd and the location as 22 Itaewon-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, at the Yongsan base.
Following a police search, no objects suspected to be explosives were found.
The police tracked the IP address of the post and arrested Mr. A at his residence in Seo-gu, Gwangju, on the morning of the same day.
The police plan to investigate the details of the incident further.
