The Gyeongbuk Environmental Awards, organized annually by North Gyeongsang Province, is a prestigious award presented to cities and counties that have demonstrated outstanding achievements in three areas: climate and environmental policy, environmental management, and clean water policy, through a comprehensive evaluation of exceptional and innovative cases.
This year, Cheongsong County was selected as one of the top five outstanding cities and counties in the first round of evaluations, based on criteria such as the assessment of carbon-neutral lifestyle practices, environmental management status, World Water Day initiatives, and joint government assessments.
In the subsequent second round, the county received high marks for its efforts toward carbon neutrality and environmental management, including the use of reusable items at the Cheongsong Apple Festival as part of the 'Oxygen Cafe Cheongsong County' carbon neutrality initiative, voluntary reduction of disposable items by public institutions, and the 'Proper Waste Disposal for Everyone' policy, which utilizes informational materials and illustrations for multicultural families. As a result, Cheongsong County was awarded the Excellence Prize.
An official from the county stated, "This achievement is the result of our efforts to practice carbon neutrality and respond to the climate crisis, even under challenging circumstances such as wildfires this year," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to ensure that all residents can live in a safe and pleasant environment."
