The Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education held the opening ceremony for the first Daejeon-Style Self-Directed Learning Center at Dongsan High School in Daejeon on December 18.

The Daejeon-Style Self-Directed Learning Center is a customized model aimed at reducing private education, linked to the Educational Development Special Zone. This initiative is being promoted to strengthen the competitiveness of public education and to alleviate the burden of private education costs on parents.

The Daejeon-Style Self-Directed Learning Center provides consulting so that students can establish and implement their own learning plans based on self-diagnosis and goal setting.

In addition, it offers learning management and individualized coaching based on a smart learning system that notifies parents of students' entry and learning times.

In particular, by exchanging mutual coaching programs with nearby schools operating self-directed learning centers, the program aims to further enhance students' self-directed learning capabilities. In the Daejeon area, a total of eight high schools, including Dongsan High School, have been selected and will begin operations this month.

Lee Seongu, Principal of Dongsan High School, said, "With the budget support from the Office of Education, we have been able to establish coaching programs, learning consulting, and a smart learning management system. We expect this will significantly boost our school's educational capabilities and greatly contribute to reducing private education costs."

Seo Minsik, the student council president who attended the opening ceremony, said, "With the introduction of a system that manages learning through entry gates and an application, we can study safely, and parents are very satisfied."

Jo Jinhyung, Director of Secondary Education at the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "By establishing the Daejeon-Style Self-Directed Learning Center, we can maximize students' self-directed learning abilities and reduce the burden of private education costs on parents. We will continue to do our best to realize an education system in Daejeon where public education is strengthened and private education costs are no longer a burden."
