Integrated Support for Medical Services for Foreign Patients
Enhancing Competitiveness in Medical Tourism
Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on December 22 that it will recruit and operate "2026 Goyang City Medical Tourism Coordinators" to strengthen integrated medical and tourism services for foreign patients.
This initiative aims to enhance the competitiveness of Goyang City's medical tourism by addressing language and cultural barriers encountered by foreign patients at local medical institutions and providing specialized services that link medical care with tourism.
The coordinators will be recruited through an open application process. Approximately two individuals will be selected for each language field-Mongolian, Russian (including those proficient in Kazakh), and Chinese-for a total of six coordinators.
The announcement period is from December 22 to December 31, 2025, and applications will be accepted from January 2 to January 9, 2026.
The selected coordinators will work as freelancers under contract with the city and will be engaged in practical field work in medical tourism from January 2026 until the allocated budget is exhausted.
The medical tourism coordinators will perform a variety of roles for foreign patients, including: ▲ medical interpretation and consultation support ▲ assistance throughout the pre-, during-, and post-treatment process ▲ coordination with medical institutions ▲ provision of medical and tourism information ▲ online consultations ▲ promotion of medical tourism through blogs and social media.
The city plans to operate the medical tourism coordinators as a talent pool, allowing medical institutions and coordinators to connect autonomously. Activity fees will be paid after verifying performance, enabling a flexible response to on-site demand.
Through this initiative, the city expects to increase satisfaction among foreign patients and establish a professional workforce capable of systematically responding to the evolving demands of medical tourism.
Seo Eunwon, Head of the Tourism Division, stated, "Goyang is a leading medical city in the Seoul metropolitan area, home to major medical institutions such as the National Cancer Center and advanced general hospitals. By operating medical tourism coordinators, we will provide high-quality medical support and customized medical tourism services to foreign patients, and continue to strengthen our competitiveness in medical tourism based on a robust medical infrastructure."
