3 Billion Won Allocated in Next Year’s Main Budget for Feasibility Study
Objective Review Scheduled for January
Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province has begun developing fundamental solutions to address the increasing number of complaints from residents and tourists regarding transportation inconveniences. These issues have arisen with the use of the Seoyeongdeok Interchange (Jipum-myeon, Suam-ri) on Expressway No. 30 Sangju-Yeongdeok section, which opened in 2016, and the Namyeongdeok Interchange (Namjeong-myeon, Yangseong-ri) on Expressway No. 65 Pohang-Yeongdeok section, which opened on November 8.
Accordingly, Yeongdeok County has allocated 300 million won in next year’s main budget for a feasibility study on the construction of two new expressway interchanges. The county plans to conduct an objective and professional feasibility study in January 2026, based on the criteria and guidelines for additional expressway interchange installation and operation, in order to determine the optimal solution.
In addition to the work consultations with Korea Expressway Corporation, the county plans to respond swiftly and proactively to the inconveniences that have arisen since the expressway openings by closely coordinating with relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, regarding expressway connection agreements, and by expediting administrative procedures.
Kang Sinyeol, Director of Construction at Yeongdeok County, stated, "The opening of expressways serves as a major catalyst for revitalizing the local economy and attracting tourists, but resolving the practical transportation inconveniences experienced by residents during this process is the top administrative priority. Starting with this feasibility study, we will focus all available administrative resources to provide residents with a more convenient daily life and visitors with a pleasant road environment that encourages them to return."
